Duck heads

Submitted by Robert Fuentes on 12/22/1998. ( Robertf@brazos.org )

When mounting a duck is there a method or process of using the the real head without detaching it from the skin. Are you able to keep the head attached and do all of the cleaning, degreasing and preserving procedures or is this something I dreamed up?

Duck Heads

Robert,
I did my bird heads that way for many years. I
thought a lot about those heads last year and thought there
has to be a better way, and still use the natural head.
I got up the nerve and started cutting the heads off.
I liked the idea of not having an incision in the neck
and you can get a better head and neck junction.

After doing it this way, as you read in my other post,
I won't go back to doing it the other way.

Carol

Robert, it just shows how far along this art has come. It used to be that all of us did it the "old" way by using the real head and of course, still attached. I know some excellent taxid. that still do, with great results, after controlling the shrinkage. Or rebuilding it. I'm not laughing at you, though. It's like saying "do they still use the real skin sometimes?" Progress, eh?
