A real quick qestion?
I am attempting a Boar that was given to me for practice (Which by the way, all I do is practice right now). The problem is there is a bite out of one ear, about mid-way down from the tip that leaves only about an inch of ear left there. It is an old wound and completely healed. How do I turn the Ear? (Is it even possible?)

Dear Dave,
Cut or split the skin along the edges of the damaged portion of the ear in order to completely turn the ear skin and remove the cartilage.
To mount the ear WITH the damage showing, choose an appropriate sized ELC boar earliner and Dremel out the damaged shapes using the removed cartilage as a template. Then mount the ear skin over the modified earliner.
To mount the ear WITHOUT any damage showing, mount the damaged earskin over an unaltered ELC earliner. After the mount dries, patch and repair the missing skin area with Apoxie Sculpt.
Good luck!

Thanks for the advice!
I assume to go ahead and tan it with the cartilage so if there is any shrinkage it will be equal?

I would recommend that you remove the ear cartilage before tanning (even before salting, if possible). After tanning, removal of the ear cartilage becomes much more difficult. It is a lot easier to remove the ear cartilage from a green skin.

Because he's the undisputed boar master. However if you happen to be tanning with one of Steve Rotremel's auto tanners, tan for one hr. with crystals only [no oil],after which time the cartilage rolls off with ease, finish pare your cape THEN add your oil to the tan and tan to completion.Works for me.Also-done alot of boars and have yet to meet one with ears intact, thats how the hounds hold them down. Good luck
