I have always been instred in taxidermy an am about to try it for the first time. I have read several books on the two animals which I will do first. The first one will be a squirl an the second will be a 10 point buck my father killed this year. He has never had anything mounted an I would like to do this for him. I fell ok with all the steeps except preparing the hide for the manikin. What is the best way for me to do this an do it all myself an can I use borax instesd of an ez-tan products? I really want to do a good job for him! So could someone please help?

you really need to tan the cape for the whitetail. you
can get away with borax on the squirrel, but that would be a
good item to practice tanning. I would also suggest you pick
up a good book, or video the money will be well spent. read,
or watch them several times before starting the mounts.

Go on down to the tanning category and start reading the posts, I think you'll find many of them quite informative regardless of what level or age you're at. It will kinda give you a feel of who's using what and why, and for which application. Read them for a bit and see what you come up with. Good luck...
