Dull Gloss

Submitted by BJ on 2/24/1999. ( )

On the last three fish that I've painted the gloss coat looks fine, until the next morning. The gloss doesn't really dull, just doesn't look as deep as it usually does. just makes me mad after 2nd or 3rd heavy coat and the fish has good depth and wet look only for it to be kind of dull on the top and fins after completely dry. I used Super Gloss aerasole on these fish. I also gloss two times during the painting process to help build up the depth of the fish. These are the first fish that I've done during cold weather. I do my work in my basement so it stays pretty constant in temp, however it's pretty humid (80-100%) year round.

can anyone give me some tips? thanks for your help in advance.

DEHUMIDIFIER

I would suggest you purchase one and take humidity down to less than 50%,this might help your gloss problem, I'm not sure. It will help your fish dry out better and faster along with your paint when you are finishing them. See Ya! Paul

Seal?

Are you sealing the fish prior to painting?Humidity can be a major factor in any paint/gloss situation.

Fungicidal Sealer

Yes, I've been using Polytranspar's fungicidal sealer (laquer base). Is this sufficient?
