Casting chicken head

Submitted by Chris on 2/14/01. ( ) 209.214.183.114

I'm forced to mold and cast the head of a customer's chicken because no commercial head for this particular one is available. This will be my first time casting anything. This should be interesting! I would like to use alginate for my mold simply because I have plenty on hand, but would like to know which castin material would best suit this type of mold. Any other helpful advice is also greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for all your input.

Don't use urethane

If your are going to use alginate, you can't use any urethane- based casting material as it will react with the water content in the mold. If you use silicone rubber as a mold medium, you can use practically any casting medium. If it were I, I would use silicone for the mold and Jeff Kuhn's #101 White urethane for casting. Jeff Kuhn's Supply is in York, PA.
