This past saturday i mounted a pintail and it came out awsome. But today when i was looking at it it kind of smelled, then i realized that i forgot to borax it. Ive mounted plenty of birds and this is the first time it has happened to me and i am kicking myself in the ass for it. Could anyone give me some advive on what to do about this problem.
Thanks,
Justin Terro
Put it in the freezer ASAP, unwrapped, and Pray! Let it freeze-dry [sort of]
Good luck.

will it mess up anything, distort the feathers? Jus wondering.

If it slips, you've lost it. Freezing might help it get dry before that happens. I should have mentioned that it can't be pressing against anything of course. It will have zero bug resistance but if it dries OK it should hold up otherwise if you cleaned and de-fatted it thoroughly.

if it smells, it not from the lack of borax.
You did not clean properly. Probable left some moisture in the tip of
the wings and its rotting now. As the weather gets warm ,it starts to rot before it can dry.
put a fan on it and it will dry and the smell will leave.
