pin feathers

I heard mentioned on some earlier post about not mounting birds that have pin feathers. What problems will I encounter mouting a bird with pin feathers? Thanks in advance...

The problem with pin feathers is that they are onlt held to the skin with soft, blood-filled bases. Cleaning the skin, or even handling it in some cases, makes them fall out. You end up with a very sparsely covered bird if you are lucky. Some, like concentration-camp pheasants, will end up almost bald. The hard part is guessing in advance as to which ones to attempt. Some are obvious lost causes, some are iffy.
