Remove the tail

I remove the tail before tumbling pheasants and other birds with
very long tailfeathers. This also make cleaning betweeen quills easier.
You can very easily hot glue or bondo the tail in place during assembling later.

I agree. I will clean, presereve, and mount the tail after putting the bird back in the freezer to work on later when I get the form. The tail is already dry and set up when you mount! Just bondo it into a groove in the manikin. No need to tumble the tail.

5 gallon bucket

Leave the tail sticking out of the bucket and just gently go side to side. It worked great for me on my first Phesaant I did. I have a 6 gallon bucket, I got at work with a lid. I put corn cob grit and do my ducks in it. Works fine for me and its cheap. try it. Pat
