Can turkeys be purchased the same as other animals? I have checked the "for sale" section and see no listings.

Domestic turkeys that resemble wild ones can be sold as long as USDA certified at the brood farm. You can call The Turkey Roost and Mr. Morris will sell you one already mounted in the pose of your choice. I don't have the # handy,but it's in Taxidermy Today and probably Breakthrough.


There are captive bred wild turkeys

The most common captive varieties are Rio Grandes and Easterns, with Merriams running third. Crosses between wilds and domestic bronzes are also available. Those usually look like a Merriams.
There is an e-mail group dedicated to heritage turkeys on Yahoo.
I think it is RHT@Yahoogroups.com , or something like that. You have to join the group to post, but it's easy.
Those people can find you a wild turkey for sale if anyone can.
