On some birds, especially ducks, I sometimes have the problem on the area behind where the bird's neck connects to the forward part of the back. The feathers in this area seem to be real tempermental for me b/c after I assemble the bird, the feathers appear sparse and thin, and looks as though there should be more feathers there, even though I'm positive that no feathers were lost in this area. Does anybody have any tips or advise?

Hello Rob,
Its quite possible that you have either the skin or the feathers or both pinched in that area when you positioned the neck.Gently get your Preening Pick in there and lift those feathers up out of there. If the skin is pinched, you have to sharp of a bend in the neck.Visualise an "S" as a bird's neck always has an "S" shape to it, YES, even in flight, just not as pronounced.
If the skin does get pinched on ya, Gently lift the skin upward twards the head to release thie pinch. This could very well be your problem.
Have a good day,
Dave
Could be you are pulling the skin back too far and you need to taxi all that skin forward, towards the ducks neck. The tendency seems to be wanting to pull the skin (of anything) down and away. But that doesn't work.
On a flying bird, it is very possible that the neck is too long.Meaning that the skin is stretched, andthe feathers aren't able to lay down like they should. And on a standing bird, just grab where the neck feathers end and the chest feathers begin and just pull them up towards the head a little bit. That should do it as far as I know.
Hope it helps,
Eric Schmidt
Thanks!
