Artificial bird head and bodies

Submitted by Sean S. on 1/30/02. ( ) 209.237.13.100

I would appreciate any info./opinions on the most complete reference manual(s) regarding game-bird taxidermy. I have never used artificial heads, and would like a teaching reference(s) that covers basic through advanced techniques from beginning to end. Also, I do very few mounts, but have noticed that I have a very difficult time getting my mounting wires into the new extremely firms poly bodies whether they be wing and feet wires or for securing to the base. Any thoughts here would be appreciated.

Thx

Hello Sean,
I would HIGHLY recomend purchasing "Bird Taxidermy Manual" by Breakthrough. There is everything in this puplication you'll need to know. Excelant step by step photographs with detailed instructions to it. I feel that its a "MUST" for the Bird Taxidermist!

As far as running your wires through the foam mannikin, I like to cut my wire to a sharp point and heat the tip of the wire up. Your wire will slide through the foam body like Butter.

Have a great day,
Dave

Thanks!

Thanks for the prompt reply Dave. I ordered what you recommended as well as another to start my Taxidermy library.

Heat the tip, huh? Thanks for the great suggestion. I'll give it a try.

Regards,

Sean
