Casting Eider heads any different than "normal" ducks

Submitted by Brad on 1/31/02. ( bradsbirds@hotmail.com ) 24.207.162.34

I received some Eiders this week and want to cast the bills. Was wondering if there are any additional steps to take regarding the "lobe" ie injected with water, cast while frozen, etc... The birds were harvested last week and are in prime shape. I use silicone caulk to make casts or "normal" duck bills, assume this will work on these birds too? Thank you,
Brad

I use jetrate for this being it's cheaper and I can mold and cast the same day. I have never used silicone caulk (is it RTV?)for this cause as it's hardening the head is shrinking and rotting out. I don't know how thick you put it on and if you make a mother mold so that the head doesn't distort when you cast it. But if your happy with the results your getting then go ahead and use it.
