raising pheasants

Submitted by Jake on 4/18/02. ( )

Can someone help me.....I'm thinking about raising pheasants, ringneck, jumbo ringneck, as well as show pheasants ect. I live in South Dakota. Do I need a permit? and is it legal to sell them? and how do they respond to quail? I'm clueless on how to run this internet stuff its the first time for me. Help!?! I appreciate any input.

There number is (605) 773-3485. Their web site address is http://www.state.sd.us/gfp/index.htm. South Dakota only has about 15 or 20 laws and I doubt a pheasant permit is one of them but you best call to make sure. Besides, they are very friendly (Dakota is Sioux for friend) and they can give you some names and numbers of some people that can help. Good luck.

Jake, I am also interested in raising game birds and found this magazine that I think will help you with some of your questions. It's the "Game Bird and Conservationists' Gazette". You can go to there web site, www.Gazette.com and check out what they have to offer.

Where do pheasants get water during the winter when everything is frozen?

Hey There!
Snow is very much sufficient in the place of water during the winter.
