In case anyone else wants to know, juvenile bald eagles are hatched with "rather dark brown eyes." They stay that way until the bird begins to get white feathers. The eye color will then change "fairly rapidly", in a matter of a few months. Also, conceivably, "if caught at the right time, may be any shade between (the brown and gold)". This info is from a friendly guy at the Sutton Avian Research Center in Bartlesville, OK. I'll have to visit sometime.
