i found a dead osprey on the side of the road which looked to have just died by a car hitting its wing and dislocating it causing it to crash and break its neck. it is in perfect condition (no visible blood or external injuries) and i was wondering if they are protected birds and if i could get it mounted. if mounting is a possibility can you give me a roundabout price quote.

I sure hope you do not try to make a living by analyzing crime scenes. The osprey could have died by any number of methods, but I assure you that unless the bird was found on a bridge or causeway, it was not struck by a car. It may have hit a powerline and broken a wing, but that is doubful, since broken wing birds fare much better than do aircraft when crash-landing. If there are eagles in your area, the bird may have been injured in an attack by a bald eagle in an attempt to steal the osprey's meal. The bird may have been electrocuted by a power line, in which case it may have broken bones in the fall..............

The above musing is beside the point. You may not possess the bird, living or dead, or a single feather from it. Since I hate to see wildlife wasted, I would suggest you descretely find a museum or collection to take charge of the remains. You broke the law - strange and unfair as that regulation may seem - when you picked up the bird.
