I posted question I was refering to fish heads not bird heads sorry for the mistake...Lloyd
Now I am confused. Fish heads.......yes some still use the head. With todays materials like Magic Sculpt and other compounds, it is easier than ever, but not as easy as casting your own.
Bird heads......see above. The old techniques are just as valid as they ever were. The use of artificial heads saves a lot of time and effort on the part of the taxidermist, but the end result varies and is no better than a properly rebuilt original.
Time is money. Rebuilding the shrink on a fish head can take days with some cold-water species......give me the plastic....If you are serious about how to, I may be able to help. The oldest of the "old" ways are not worth the bother, unless you are making a "stuffed" fish for a movie set.
I seen a bunch of huge pike heads mounted from the 1930'sthey looked pretty neat. You don't see much of that today...Lloyd
....I was refering to fish head mounts only...This looks o.k with huge musky or pike heads on a branch or drift wood...You never hear or see anyone doing thou?....Lloyd
