I was just wondering what your opinions are on using mineral spirits for a degreaser or Van Dykes Super Solvent chemical degreaser, or do you have a suggestion for something that may work better(For Birds).

I have used the good Degreaser from WASCO, Mineral Spirits and White gas. The only difference I have noticed is the price.
Although the mineral spirits will work the times I have used it the smell would knock you over. I even tried the odorless type and still stink-orama. The white gas has an odor also but it seems to disapate quickly. As far as other chemicals, I prefer white gas and you get the added bonus of seeing if you can blow yourself up with it!
Neither mineral spirits nor white gas DEGREASE. EVER. NEVER. Read the archives and learn some things that may startle you.
James, George is right on this one Mineral spirits and white gas are not degreasers they mainly displace water after washing It may appear to have removed grease by the residue in the bottom of the bucket but its mainly water you are seeing. Super safety solvent and Kemal-4 from Knoblochs are both good degreasers for animals.I do only turkeys so as far as that goes I use a sawdust tumbler after washing and I use the kemal which works great for me but I will be trying Epo-Grip which I have heard has a degreaser that works excellent on birds. Good luck, Mark
