Your best bet is to subscribe to Game Bird Gazette - $22 per year. Lots of birds for sale. One tip - if you area taxidermist - DO NOT tell anyone you deal with or they will not sell to you. They raise them for food and pets and while it is okay to kill and eat them - they don't care much for taxidermists ! Here's a couple of addresses to get you started....

Go to www.gbwf.net and click on breeder directory, then USA and just make your way through the list. The Gazette is great, but I have never gotten one within 3 months of when I should have. Also e-mail Matt Tuttle. He raises tragopans, don't know if he has westerns or not. His e-mail is tutmandk@juno.com. He replys very promptly and is very curteous. If he doesn't have any, I bet he can help you find some. Duckman wasn't kidding when he said not to tell them you are a taxidermist. Tell them you need a new breeder male. You aren't lying, you do need him, just a matter of understanding what you say. Hope this helps.

What kind of breeders do you all deal with ? I have never met a breeder who wouldn't sell to me because I wanted to mount his bird. in fact I have had them even kill birds for me when prime and hold birds for me until molted out. they will also keep any birds that die naturally in thier freezers until someone needs it.they know thier birds and when they look best and can help you get a good specimen. I didnt know ruddy's were prime in late june until a breeder told me this then he sold me one of his breeder males and even killed it for me. Most breeders spend a lot of money in feed in a year and are happy to sell to most anyone they can. If one wont sell me a bird because I'm a taxidermist I don't want his bird then!
