Ravens are a protected species and crows are covered by the migratory wildlife laws that apply to ducks, geese and marsh birds. A crow or raven mount that was done prior to the MBTA in 1972 would be legal, if you can locate one that is certified and grandfathered.
In Alabama we shoot crows like we swat mosquitoes. How much are you willing to pay. I can have you a dozen by 9:oo tomorrow morning.
Not getting busted by the feds that is!
....... Legally HAVE a crow mounted. You must supply a legally taken crow to a taxidermist for mounting. Most states have seasons on crows, find out when your state allows the taking of crows by calling your Game and Fish Dept. If you are not a hunter try to find one who hunts crows. The hunter will have to give you the crow, with NO compensation to him. Contact your taxidermist and find out the information that must accompany the crow(license number, etc)
To find someone to get you a crow, I would go to a few local sporting goods stores and make inquiries. You may also want to contact the local game warden and explain to him what you are doing and why you want the crow, he might be able to point you in the right direction.
I quess I should say that I was kidding about selling that dozen crows. I could not in good concience sell a crow to someone anymore than I could sell snow to an eskimo. The dozen crows are free Dale.
Anyway, here in the south, the crow is one of the most popular "ornamental" birds. If you drive down any rural road you will see dozens of them hanging by strings from poles, fences, and tree limbs in gardens and fields. These crows, contrary to popular beliefs perpetuated by city-slickers, and yankees, have not committed suicide, but have in fact been deliberately placed there by local inhabitants to demonstrate their complete and total disregard for the "feds" and their migratory bird laws, and if it helps a few crows to "migrate" to somewhere else, well thats fine to.
Are these mounts legal? Would they win any competitions? What would the feds say? I guess the bigger question is who cares?
