I'm about to enter a goose at my first state competition and have a question for those experienced competition goers. Is there anything
used to make the feathers look a little more shiny right before judging? Any advice would be helpfull.

Nothing, just a nice clean bird will be shinny
When I show chickens and fowl all my birds get wipped with kerosene the day before the show. white lantern fuel also works. Just barely get it on a rag though and go veyr lightly ya don't want it to go up in flames. Chase
to concern oneself over the lustre of the plume,l would be surprised that you could actually "loose" points in that area so dont get too concerned with the shininess of the feathers.
Even live birds naturally have old , worn or dull feathers in their total plume makeup as a result of moult replacements.
What l believe could hurt you in a judges view is soiled, greasy,OR matted plume, or the obvious presence of saw dust throughout the feathers
THIS l would check.
l find that birds tumbled in fresh sawdust after being rinsed with laquer thinners tend to shine or "glow" more than birds soaked in regular gasoline.
Do this for your comp piece, and wear rubber gloves.
GOOD lUCK
