turkey feet without an airbrush

Hey all,

I'm just starting to fulfill a dream I've had for a long time and that's learn taxidermy. I'm tackling a strutting turkey and thus far all of the advice and warnings about the difficulties of the work have been right on. And thank you for that.

Next question. Rather than spend $20 on cast legs, I'd like to use the ones from the bird. I don't have an airbrush yet and I know, down the line, I'll need one. But is there a way to color the legs without one? I was thinking of using actual spray paint from a can and doing the spray-on, wipe-off tactic but i really am unsure what colors to use. I've tried looking at some reference photos but they all seem so different. It seems like after hunting turkeys all those years, I'd know exactly what color their legs are. But you just don't pay attention to that stuff until you do something like this I guess.

Thanks again for the help.

Spelling is wrong, but I found that at a Model Railroad shop, its the perfect color, even smells good (hum could be bad) but I tried it airbrush and it worked great, then decided to try it with a paint brush. It still worked great. Just a bit tricky but nothing bad.

You may want to use a colored water based wash, diluted paint applied with a brush also.

I would stay away from a spray can.
