I'm mounting a full-strut gobbler. Everything's going well but I have a slight problem in the tail.
The fan is removed and bondoed. Everything looks smooth and shiny but the very tips of the tail feathers look sort of ragged. They just won't hold together without small splits almost like a frayed edge. Any tips on how to make them stay together? I was considering a touch of hair gel or something similar.

Steam will bring those feathers back together. I have a small clothing steamer that I use. I have used steam from a pot of boiling water, but I dont like putting it that close to the heat source. This trick also works on your hunting arrow fletching
On almost every wild turkey I have seen, the very tips of the tail feathers are slightly damaged and frayed. Spring turkeys are the worst.
