Painting Duck Legs When...

...one leg is brought up next to the body. I plan on having a Woodduck Hen with one leg drawn up next to her side (standing on one leg pose). What is the best or easiest way to paint/mount the legs when doing this? Should I remove the legs after skinning, mount tempoarily to the form, inject, position, let dry, and then paint? How else can I paint a leg that is tucked up under the body and not get paint all over the feathers? Thanks for the help! Andy.

Although I am not a bird expert per se. Theres more than one way to skin a cat -er paint a duck foot.Either dry paint and place the foot once the paint is dry or as you mount while it is still attached place a piece of tissue paper around the foot and partially unwrap it and paint it later .or you could make a repro one and finish it before mounting and postioning.

Easy

Just slide a piece of brown paper (grocery bag, etc) in between the leg and the feathers. You can cut a small round hole in it that will fit tightly around the leg, along with a slot toward the rear so you can slide it into place. Put a bit of tape over the slot to seal it and then use long pins (if needed) to keep the paper from curling into your way.
