Does anybody know of a formula that will harden once injected into birds feet? (besides the commercial injectables that are WAY too expensive for what they are!} How about fiberglass resin? if so, can it be thinned and how?

You seem to be another billboard for yardsale taxidermy. You don't want to pay for something that WORKS, but you want to know how to use something that will cost you the same amount in the long run and won't work well when you use it. Go figure!
"Feature Builder Firming" from the Dodge Company in Cambridge Mass. It is a formaldehyde based injectable that is used in the mortician business. You inject the stuff and in a few minutes it hardens and preserves. Their number is 617-661-0500. Gloves and respirator a must.
About $10 for 13 oz.
Simply mix Elmers White Glue and our Rittels Preservz-it - then inject - put a pin in the hole until it sets! Use a 9 parts glue to 1 part Preservz-It mixture.
. . . .just wondering if you knew if preservz-it and bird feet injection fluid were about the same ? I have some to use up if it would work also. thx.
why would you waist your time responding to this note if this is the best addvise you can give. next time keep your simple thought to your self. Maybe Tom is just trying to get in to this wonderful art of taxidermy and dose not have the money to spend. I'm sure when you first start out you cut some corners to save some money or did you just start out thinking that you were perfect. The next time you feel the urge to open your big mouth don't and this goes for who ever eles feels the need to but someone down when all they are trying to do is ask a question
After having what you said interpreted, your defense from anonymity is what I'd expect. This is another shining example of why some people charge $250 for a mount while others get $600. Too many of you want the Mercedes look but insist on buying it at the prices of the Hugo. And since you obviously don't have a clue, when I started, there WERE no shortcuts. We didn't have the "good stuff" that makes quality available today. I'm just tire of this industry being drawn down by the cheap mentality and, in your case especially, the lack of a functioning education. You're the kind that wants to BUY cheap, but sell HIGH. Have any of you ever considered buying QUALITY AND CHARGING ACCORDINGLY? One of my customers is a mason. He loves my work but he tells me I need to give him a price break. I told him that what I charge is a fair price for what he gets. He takes his deer elsewhere. Last week, I call him asking about a price on building a hearth. I tell him to be easy on me and that I'm just price shopping. He stops in the middle of the floor and says, "Look, I do quality work and that comes at a cost." I told him "NO KIDDING? That's what I told you about my taxidermy work." and then he had the gall to say, "Yeah, but that's different!" Yeah, it's different all right. That sounds about like you "j". And by the way, the mason's name started with a "j" as well. You're probably him, aren't you.
your an pardon me, GEORGE YOUR AN IDIOT.
i'am also learning taxidermy for birds and i often visit this site for help and sugestions. almost everything you say george is not helpful or kind. if your such a pro you shouldn't have any free time to answer any posts on this board. further you are cutting down a pretty good question. i live in canada and it takes 5 weeks by mail to recieve 20.00 worth of material and landed cost is 55.00. if there is a sub that not as good i would like to here about it and decide for myself if i should use it.
o again your an idiot your voice on this board is cheap and your ip address should by suspended from posting here.
ps: your lack of help proves your jackass and a novice. get that
interpreted. o again "IDIOT"
admin sorry
All I wanted to know is if there is a chemical that is just as good as commercial injection fluid ! Believe me, expensive materials
do not make a perfect work of art. I am also an oil/acrylic painter
who has come in the top 50 of the federal duck stamp contest. I DO buy quality materials. But when I see stuff like " expert brand " bird degreaser for $ 15.00 per quart and discover that it is no more than mineral spirits , that costs $ 1.60 a GALLON at wal mart, it pisses me off. If someone let out a secret that was a perfect substitute for gasoline,{ in EVERY respect} and is only .$50 cents a gallon, believe me -- you would try it in your vehicle. I'm am not a cheap person. you get what you pay for. Not to metion that I work full time in the cemetery memorial business, as an artist and salesman. you would not believe the mark up on granite! IT'S A DAMN ROCK ! There is a mountain of it in barre VT. some chunks as big as a truck! for free. it is the same granite as is being sold for huge prices. The only thing that makes it "unusable" is it might have a streak in it that the average person wouldn't notice. Why does a paperclip in Washington D.C. cost somthing like $20.00 ? It's a paper clip ! So- in closing , point your finger at me for being cheap. Just think of all the things you purchase in a year that you "shopped around for". Screw it ! go pay top dollar when the store down the street has the SAME thing for 10 to 25 % less. Let me know how you make out . Or better yet-- Go pay sticker price for that new truck! Youv'e got it! spend it ! I rest my case. thank you.
