Meat in pheasant wings

I was wondering if anyone here takes the meat out of the wing that runs all the way up to the last joint. I have just injected them with preservative which worked, but I was still worried it might push feathers out when it dried,and I have also taken the meat out. I know it is better if you take it out, but it is tough if the wing is broken to sew it up because of the all the holes so close together, it also seems tough to hide on a normal wing. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanx, Dana

I don"t know what you injected it with but if you used the right stuff, made for it than. I do not see a reason to worry about it I know of professionals that have injected the whole bird minus the guts the eyes and brains and birds up to the size of a ruffed grouse and it still looked good years later
Mind you by no means am I saying that you should start injecting the whole bird, you just do not have to worry about that little piece of meat in the wing this time

Hi dana, there is more than a " little " piece of meat in a pheasant wing and most all bird taxidermy experts will tell you to remove it. hope this helps.

I would try to skin it out completely even if the wing is broken. It may be more work in the long run, but after you get the wing skinned out you will see just how much meat is hiding there. If you take your time and don't pull to hard you should be able to completely invert the wing without much trouble even if it is broke. I recently mounted a pheasant that had a completely severed wing bone and still inverted the wing just fine. As for BB holes, I wouldn't mess with them if they are small. Some of the bigger ones you may need a stitch or 2.
