Hi Ben, I suggest if you are really interested in doing taxidermy you take a course.
It is a misconception with alot of people these days that everything you need to know you can learn it on the internet.
Taxidermy needs to be taught in a hands on situation,you need to go to someone to learn how to do it.
This forum is excellent after you learn the basics and by SEARCHing you can find almost any answer to ant question.
You arent to young if its what you really want to do.JUst do it.
Look for schools or one on one courses in your area.

do not wire your wings just pin them up till you get some practise..check archives as well
Have you heard of a chucker? I got it to practice on from a guy who rasies pheasent and quail. My dad wanted me to practice before he paid to get me ringneck. I just got it skinned and i have the skin covered in borax. I have a question. Will the borax dry out the fat i did not get off? and what should i do about the meat in the wings? I cut them pen and latherd them in borax. I will take the meat out tommorow. And what should i do about the tissue in the feet? how do i stop rot there.
I would say the best way to learn, If youv'e got the money,is video tapes and books. Go to www.taxidermy.com This should bring you to the WASCO site. Look for books and videos on what you want to do. Frank Newmeyer is one of the best artists there are. Also there is www.theduckblind.com or other waterfowl reference sites.There is a place called krausmans also.Getting good reference is aLOT of the battle. a place called PELC puts out such videos. You ARE going to have mistakes at first. Go slow, use a SHARP scalple or other knife.
Study how a bird is put together in it's bones and musculature. This is also how Medical and nursing students such as myself learn how a body works. Also, there are places in the back of Breakthrough Magazine that sell ducks and other birds to mount. You'll pick it up very fast. It's a lot of practice. This forum page is just about one of the best places to learn also. There are alot of skilled pro's on this site. They will help you. They're helping a begginer like myself.

the bird is called a chukar. I misspelled it earlier. I have been going through sites and was wondering if there are any that offer rush delivery(perferably overnight)and are there any types pf perservatives that can be boughtat like wal-mart or something. I dont have a credit card or paypal and i dont know who can order for me.does any one know about alternitives to purchesd forms? I wondered because i also cant find excelsior. Is it possible to make them out of styrofoam.

You all are really stupid for mounting anything. You wouldnt like it if you got mounted because you were murdered and the person who murdered you wanted to show off his winning prize would you? Please fill free to send me e-mail about all of this because I have alot to talk to yo all about.

Instead of worrying about people doing taxidermy,you should take a night class for spelling and typing ! Maybe you should think about that holiday roast you prepare each year or better yet, how do those leather shoes on your feet feel? Or- maybe that pefume you srayed on this morning came from the glands of some animal. Do you carry a leather purse? If so , it and your shoes all came from"murdered" animals. I'm totally against any kind of animal cruelty. I also believe that god put certain animals here for our use. Do you realize how many deer would be running around if it weren't for hunting season? Your entitled to an opinion , so am I.
