do they all need it or are some ok without it. I am doing a Chuckar.I did not degrease it so do i need to?

If you mean do you have to put the bird in solvent? the answer is no. But degreasing to me is washing in Dawn dish soap. I recommend all birsa are washed. It seems to bring life back to the feathers. Lots in the archives also

I do. Chukar have feather tracks that retain fat between the feather quills. That fat needs to be removed for proper preservation, but also to allow you more freedom to adjust the feathers and taxi them to the position you desire. The tail quills also need the fat and meat removed as well as the two small oil glands at the base of the tail. Although I do defat (degrease) all birds using a wire wheel, with smaller birds such as a chuckar you can remove the fat with small serrated tools and scissors. As stared above, all birds should also be washed in some type of soap - I prefer Dawn, but there are any number of choices including some specifically designed to remove grease sold through taxidermy suppliers.
