I have mounted 3 pheasants (my first ones) and 10 days later 2 of the three have beaks that are turning black. The one that does not I accidently pulled off the upper beak trying to pull the head back through the neck skin so I glued it back on. I saw only one message regarding this in the archives.
1. What can be done to prevent this in the future other than remove the beak deliberately and glue it back on?
2. Is there anything I can do now to fix the problem - I cannot figure out how to remove the beaks at this point without breaking them?
3. If painting them is the only recourse now, what type paint would you use (water based, acrylic or latex), will it work with a brush (I do not have an airbrush yet) and is there a simple color or mix I could use.
Thanks for your time and advice. Wayne

Wayne, all bird beaks and legs have to be painted . They will turn dark as they dry just like a fish skin mount turns darker as it dries . You can use a paint brush but an air brush looks nicer .

Thanks Rick: I was confused when I saw 2 of them turn black and the one that did not the beak had come off and I re-cemented it on.Only 1 posting on doing that deliberately. Is there a simple paint mix that can be used and what type of paint (water, acrylic, latex etc.)?
I have seen some very complicated formulas but I am just getting started with this as a hobby for now. Thanks again for your response and time. Wayne
