Is it legal to buy a mounted duck on E-bay

Submitted by dave on 03/13/2003. ( ) 65.31.129.76

Is is legal to buy a mounted duck from a private party on e-bay? Do all mounted ducks sold have to have paperwork with them? Or is that just for ducks sold by a taxidermist? I sometimes see ducks listed and it says includer all CRITES (SP?) paperwork or documentation that it is a farm raised duck. But what a bout a duck from a hunter's private collection? Does anyone know?

I checked the archives, (should have gone there first) I found the answer to my question. It is NOT legal to buy a mounted duck from anybody, taxidermist or not. They sure sell a lot of illegal ducks on e-bay I guess as there are always plenty of them listed there.

World Fauna Museum lists them.

Bill Huffman of the World Fauna Museum lists them for sale in his stock items for sale. I'm sure he wouldn't chance an illegal move such as this.

Why not, if farm raise

Yes you can buy and sell waterfowl if they are farmed raised and the paper work is provided.

Im sure you get an occasional bird on Ebay that is illegal, you may see a few birds that were picked up at an auction by some uninformed buyer who tries to resell them, but for the most part those birds are pen raised. I must say that i have looked at the birds on ebay and I think they're pretty poor examples of the trade. Just be carefull if you do decide to bid on one. I would email the seller and ask if it is a pen raised bird, and if its not just dont bid.

There are plently of good examples of great looking birds/waterfowl on ebay for sale-LEGAL ones if I may say, along with some pretty sorry looking ones.
I don't know why everybody is alsways "bashing" ebay. Maybe because they have restrictive laws in California-or there are a lot of "tree huuggers there". Whatever the reason-it's not a true repsresentation. Cornboy
