tumbling pheasants

How do you keep the tail feathers from getting bent when you tumble them? Ive been fluffing them is corn cob dust by hand because my tumbler trashes tail feathers.

Don't tumble them.

Cut the tail off, borax the feather butts, spread the feathers out the way you like it and slop some bondo on the butts, glue the tail in the mannequin after you mount the bird.
