How long is too long

Submitted by wchare on 09/16/2003. ( wchare@socket.net ) 216.106.72.6

I have a couple of wood ducks that I mounted back around January. They were the first ducks I had ever mounted. They turned out OK but after mounting a few more I am not happy with them anymore. I would like to try rehydrating them and remounting. Has it been too long to where this is going to be more of a hassle than it is worth? Thanks for any advise.

I don't believe it can be done. Woodducks being a really soft skinned bird I believe they would fall apart if rehydrating was attempted. Better off to be satified the way they are than losing them completely. Good Luck, Mark

save them

Just save them for the future to give you something to look at and see how much your work has improved . I'm sure the other ducks you just did after them wont look as good as what you'll be mounting in the years to come . I still have stuff from 30+ years ago and wish I still had that first animal I did 37 years ago but my dog ate it .
Its also amazing how that first duck I did took 6 1/2 hours and now I can do them in under 2 .

Don't remount anything you've done...just keep all your mounts learn from them but them In the attic or somrthing or give em to grandmother?

I still have that first mount I've ever done. When I look at it I can tell how far I have come and how much I improved. Keep the ducks and you will be able to tell your improvements by just looking at them every now and then.
