i recently saw a duck and dont know what type of duck it is. it has a brown head, a brown beak, a white belly, greyish on the back, and a white patch on the wings. im not to familiar with ducks, so i thought maybe someone can tell what kind of duck it is.

Chris.....it could quite possibly be either a Hen Blue Bill or a Hen Golden Eye. But it could quite possibly be a Drake Gadwal too.
I would get out a book with duck identifications and check it out for sure.

You didn't say whether it was a diving duck or appeared to be a puddle duck or where on the wing the white patch was located so I'll give you both possible answers. If the patch was on the shoulder of the wing it was most likely an immature wigeon or a gadwall (if it was on the secondaries). If the patch was more like a speculum on a mallard the bird may have been a diver in which case it is probably a scaup. With out more info that's the best I can do. Perhaps someone else can help further.
