good reference is a must Rob but the colors I use are for the base ...bass belly white ...then using reference I use a dk brown to highlite areas that are darker then touchup areas oversprayed with the bass belly white and finish up with a satin topcoat to protect the paint ..

PHEASANT BEAK

I CLEAN THE BEAK WITH LACQUER THINNER ON A Q-TIP. PUT ON A BASE COAT OF WHITE, THEN A MIST OF YELLOW OCHRE, THEN A HINT OF CHOCOLATE BROWN; WHICH WILL GIVE IT A LIGHT STRAW COLOR. FINISH WITH CLEAR LACQUER. BEEN DOING IT THAT WAY FOR 20 YEARS, LOOKS NICE.
