I just worked on a neat Hutch or lesser canada, its about as large as a pen raised mallard.Nice animal, but I am not happy with it and want to make it look more rounded and full.I am doing a mount similiar to the Newmyer mount of a snow goose resting with its head laying back near the shoulders and leg raised up off the ground.Mine looks long and flat.I cant understand it, the body form was perfect room for plenty of taxiing, the neck is fluffed up the way I like but the whole bird looks flat! I want it to look like a fat football like the one on Franks site. What can I do?

Here is one of those little things that took me a while to figure out.
This is why I now caulk most of my birds. As we adjust the bird the the feather butts make the feathers lay down.
I think if you will take a small clear plastic tube, attach it to the tip of the caulk tube by running a small brad through the tube and tip.
Now you can make a small slit under the neck and work the tube carefully under the skin, and pump a bit of caulk in you will see the bird fluff up.

One last thing did you get the down dry? Its hard to dry the down and keep the skin moist.
Use a wet rag inside on of the skin while fluffing the down with a small extended tube on the air nozzle.

Hey JOhn C, I would like to learn more about this caulking technique. Where might I look to learn it? It has my interest.
Thanks.....
