Superglue on Feathers

Submitted by John on 01/27/2004. ( johnsz@cafes.net ) 207.65.185.141

When using artificial duck heads, I always seem to get a little superglue on the feathers around the beak no matter how careful I am.

Is there anyway to prevent this or remove the glue? Will superglue remover work or will it smear the glue back through the other feathers?

Thanks,
John

Glue

John. I cannot help you on the removal of the glue...but when it comes to the bill, I saw a post some time ago I believe from Nancy M. who stated she uses a toothpick to put the glue around the bill. I tried that out and it worked beautifully. When you apply it straight from the bottle it seems to me that is is always too much. Next time try the toothpick, or some other object similar and I am sure you will see the difference. Good luck!

I have found some super glue gel that elmers makes and it works great for what you are talking about there John...
I picked mine up at Menards but I bet most of the home improvement places carry it too...
Hope this helps a little bit ...
Good Luck, Jeff

out of clay or some other material. Put a couple drops of superglue in that, then use a toothpick, matchstick.. and dab a small amount around the bill. Don't try to do the whole bill at once with the glue, rather small sections. Then with a pin, or poker devices pull the skin up next to the bill. In reality one drop of super glue should be more than enough to do an entire bill.

As far as removing what is already on the feathers, You might try acetone.. it will disolve the super glue.. It might work.. Not for sure, never tried.

Acetone, sort of, but ...

It doesn't really remove the glue so much as it softens it. You may still have to very gently tease it out of the feathers. If you have already painted the beak that's too bad. It's a lost cause.
I SO much prefer using the real beaks whenever possible. Oh well.
Good luck with it.

I second the Gel

Great control! It's the only way to go for me.
