I have mounted canadian geese on the wall in the landing position from nice drift wood, but the wires I use as a supporting rod through the goose that ancors to the driftwood has to much bounce or instability and tends to bend downward when the goose is installed. I need advice on what support rods are used on heavy birds to keep them from being unstable on the wall. Any help is greatly appreciated.
thanks

...but I would imagine you just want to bump up the gauge wire you're using until you get the support you want...
When they are mounted landing toward the viewer I use 2 strands of 6ga wire about 1" apart. I also try to pose the bird so that the wire is concealed from every direction. I like the DW to be thick enough that the goose can be right up against it and still have enough clearance to pose the wings and tail naturally.
bolt a threaded brass rod (like used in lamps) to your base and run the wire thru it mmm very secure. If it's on a show side I cover it up with some reed grass or the like. I also use the threaded rod for big flying birds. Try it I think you'll like it.
it works good and is fairly inexspensive, just cut a couple slots in back of goose drill holes put bondo on allthread and put in body. then attach to drift wood. use 3/8" bolts and washers works good.
I always keep a look out for them at garage sales.
They're a nightmare to bend but they work very well. Bolt cutters, a GOOD vice, and a big hammer are required.
Be careful, them things have some serious power in them.
