i just read dave lukes article in Breakthrough about the process for mounting that collard dove. he talked about how they have infiltrated the southern US and he is getting several to mount. I didnt give it a second thought. then a few days later i see this great big dove in my back yard with a black collar. i run in the shop and grab my audobon book and surprize.... its a collard dove. the have been here all weekend. a pair of them. im not sure where they came from, but i can hear them calling in the neigbors yards and if i call back to them... they come right to me.
pretty cool.
has anyone else seen them? we are in southern Illinois

They're all over here in eastern Oklahoma. They tend to stay in towns rather than in the country.
I hunted a dove lease in Granbury this year and we got mourning, white wings and ringneck doves. Granbury is just 40 miles or so south of Fort Worth, Texas. The ringnecks are considered ferral and there is no limit. I shot as many as possible thinking it would be a good inexpensive way to learn to mount doves ! They're tasty too !
