airbrush question

Submitted by kevin on 02/17/2004. ( ) 209.142.170.107

I am new at taxidermy but I bought an Iwata hp-bs to paint my ducks. When dwawing fine lines close to feathers my paint seems to want to run from the air being pushed over it. Not really running caused by gravity but from the air. It makes tiny lines along the edges. Also, what do yall use to shield the feathers on the head or do you just free hand it? Thanks in advance

Pretty simple either cut back the air or the paint until it nolonger pushes the paint.

thanks very much for the responce but I tried that and it didn't seem to work. I turned it down from 40 all the way to 5 it didn't help. I am using life tone hydro mist paint which is supposed to be airbrush ready. I know practice makes perfect but im not even close and very very frustrated. Again thanks a lot for the help.

Airbrush ready does not apply to all situations. Thin paint with some type of thinner so it looks like a milky sustance. turn air pressure to about 20 and have fun. sbove answer was right on if he knew you did not thin paint. John C would never steer ya wrong...

...should be PRACTICING on paper BEFORE attempting to paint any animals or fish. By playing with thinners, retarders and air-pressure you will learn how to use the air brush. Many air brushes come with little booklets with painting exercises in them. Read it...

Just wondering if you have a moisture trap on your air compressor. As this could have an influence?
