I am sure Tom informed you about the laws coverin the feathers.
If you are leget. you can get them through your tribe or look under the links in the upper right hand coner of this page and find the USF&W office closet to you.
Yea, yea we all have heard the crap and everyone thats native american heritage wants to make all kinds of claims, dont come in here whinning.
Of for the record my Great Grandmother is listed in the Hawes Roll so dont go there, maybe its time to join the rest of the USA.
Or go and catch the bird pluck the feathers and release it as the rituals say to do!
You chose instead to lower yourself to his level? ...and folks wonder why they recieve no respect...
I did Not see the original post that spawned this thread. So I am not going to try to defend Roland's post. Even though I really did not see where he was vicious.
Dave, Frankly I am surprised, Your post started off reasonable, as they usually do. But where did the Yea yea we all here the crap, etc., come from. as I said I did not see the original post. So if I missed something, My apologies. but I saw no whining. Simply a statement of Roland's views, For Many Indians Feathers are part of a religious rituals that in and of itself should allow their possession. Lets remember this Country was spawned Because of religious prosecution, and freedom of religion is held sacred to most Americans. to tell an Indian to join the rest of the USA because he wishes to practice his religion in the manner of his ancestors. Would be like telling a Catholic to receive a twinkie rather than a Host. Or a Jew to wear a cowboy hat rather than a skull cap.
As for capturing a bird alive plucking the feather and releasing it as the rituals say, That is all well and good Providing Roland Happens to be a Nez Perce. however if he happens to be Comanche than taking the feathers by any means is acceptable, and if Apache, he must Vanquish the bird, and consume its heart before the spirit of the bird leaves.
Some treaties allow Indians to possess the feather of protected birds, without a permit from the USF&W All that is required is that they appear on the tribal roster, and that the feathers in question are a part of a bona fide ritual.
