I am just getting started mounting ducks for fun as a hobby. I had about 10 or so that I saved from hunting season to play with, but after practicing skinning and fleshing and everything. I am about out of birds. I know people can only give birds as gifts so If there is anybody who has birds they need to get rid of b/c their freezer is too full or whatever email me. I would be glad to take them off your hands so I would have to more to practice and work with. Thanks in advance to anybody that might be of help

Since they ALSO have to pay for the shipping....people are willing to give the bird away....but shipping kills it!

What did you do with the birds you skinned?

Practice is one thing but you need to try to finish them. Go out to your local gun club and buy a couple pheasants. You can also try to get some ducks from your friends. I ran out of birds when I was starting and I asked around and you wouldnt believe how many guys have ducks in the freezer that they intended to have mounted but have not gotten to it and they've been in the freezer for a couple years. Many of those guys are happy to let you give them a try.

You may want to tell everybody here on the "T" net where you are located so if they do have some birds they dont have to pay to ship free birds to you at their own expence.

i finish most of them

The first couple i just skinned and fleshed, b/c the guy that showed my how said that i would screw up my first few so just trash them. After that i have finished them. I am just out of birds. And I know they have to pay the shipping (dumb law by the way), but i just thought i would ask

Buy a video

Try a video. I bought one from WASCO. Sally Dhames mounting a Wood duck in the standing posistion. My first bird was a Drake Green Wing. I finished the project and it looked great to me and my buddies. It is still in my house.5 years have gone by and I done about 30 birds not much but they are all on a wall or standing some where. The video is a great starter. I do things differently now but that is how you learn , keep trying different things until you have a method you like. Stay on one and finish. You will be surprized how good they sew up and you can't even tell. Good Luck
