re-mounting a pheasant

I just mounted my first bird a week or so ago and it is awful. The neck is to long and some of the feathers are out of place.I read in my Breakthrough manuel that if you use DP and the skin got wet that it would move.I was wondering if it is at all possible to soak the bird in water for alittle while and remove it from the form and remount it.I would rather try that then just throwing it away.please let me know what you think.thanks

Re mounts are very difficult. Even for someone with a lot of experience. Keep it and look at it once in a while. When you get the birds to look like you want you can look back and see the difference. Get another bird and apply what you learned from the first one.

look at the anatomy

Brad, I have only done three birds but my first one sounds like yours, it was awfull the neck was to long, it looked like it was standing at attention and those were the good things about it!...lol. The second bird looked like a bird because i actually looked at reference pictures of other birds and most helpfull to me was looking at anatomy of the bird. I realized that the birds necks are often at a "S" curve witch my first bird i made the neck straight and I didnt have the legs bent the way they were suppose to. I allso bought the bird from a game farm so that might be an option for ya. It was your bird not a customers right?

awful

awful would be a good word for the first bird I did. I keep it around to see how far I have come and how frustrating I remember it was when I started. No one can say thier first bird was awsome but hey their is good things you have accomplished. Just skinning the bird right and getting it back together in somewhat of the proper order is great. Chalk it up to experience and do the next one. Keep that one next to you and learn from your mistakes. I know some of the Vets can relate to your dis-may but look how far they have come.

I know how you feel

I have just finished a lovebird and its horrible - no - embarrasing. Looks like he has the bird flu or something. I thought ok, is not too bad for a second bird (1st on my own), that was until my husband got home and asked who hit the little birdy with a tennis racket.
Then i stood back and had a good look.............yep chalk it up to experience - or rather lack of it - lol
