I have searched the site and can't find the answer im looking for. I need to know the best way to skin a sandhill crane? Do you skin like a duck or is there another trick? Also wiring the legs kind of got an idea but more would be appreciated thanks

Conventional skinning works here, as well as does the leg to leg incision. Either one is good. I perosnally remove the leg at the feather line and use a leg to leg incision. THis allows me to attach the legs to the mannikin before I put the skin over it.

I don't understand why you have a question on wiring the legs. It's pretty much the same on all birds.. Could you elaborate further on your question.

Thanks,
Jon

What imeant about wiring the legs was just different ways to attach to the mannikin. I have read some ideas such as using 5/32 threaded rod or using two wires in the legs just wanted different ideas or tricks

I suppose you could use a steel rod, but I wouldn't use a threaded rod... they just don't seem to slide as good as a solid rod, and they break easily. Honestly, a Sandhill isn't as heavy as a Turkey by any means, and I usually just use a 9 gu galvanized wire. It's soooo much easier to manipulate than the steel rod, and serves it's purpose just as good.

I would wire just like a duck or goose, only think bigger and use bigger tools.

Good luck,
Jon
