What do you do with the oil gland on the tails of birds? Ive been told that IF i remove all the meat and fat around the 2 glands near the tail that I can just leave the glands on the tail and there should be no issues. Is this correct? Seems to me that if they leak, the mount may be ruined....

and snip them off. THey are extrememly easy to remove and then you don't have to worry about any leakage in the future.

Big buffet plus they will seep oil and ruin the mount. They are easy to remove. I use the scalpel to do so.
Who ever told you to leave them is setting you up for failure!
OMG JohnC is totaly right here..Who ever told ya that didn't want ya to go far.. They come out as I am skinnig the bird with a little practice you should be able to remove them without much effort..They will come out whole and if your carefull the last cut will be at the duct..
OH yea the MUST come out!
