My question is regarding goose feathers.I bought some wings from a man that cleans birds for a guide service here in Katy,TX.How do you pull the feathers free without damage to each feather?I've had them for about a week now & the maggots are busy eating the flesh, but the feathers are still hard to pull out.I want them for decorating. Thanks,I just found this forum. It is very informative!

All the feds need now is the name of the guy you bought them from, and you'll both go to jail.
It is federally illegal to buy, sell, or barter any part of a migratory bird. Check the laws.
if you want to get them off now, a pair of scissors, knife and a wire brush will work. You are not even suppose to pick feathers up that are lying on the ground. If these are wild birds, I can't beleive the guides didn't know that.
Thanks for the info. They aresnow geese.I'll get rid of them! The guides do not know of this. They were actually, already in the garbage can.I don't want them anyway.I'll buy some turkey feathers. Thanks ,again, Doug
Vic I must disagree a little.... You can pick them off the ground if they are of a species that is legal to hunt, but you better have a hunting license if you have them in your possession during an open hunting season, or you better have gifted buy reciept from someone who does have a license. You can give them away, but you cant sell them.

You first said that you bought them, then you said you got them out of the garbage can. If you got them out of the garbage can then go ahead and keep them. BUT....Like I told Vic if you do not have a valid hunting license you better have a gifted by reciept from someone who does have a license. If a warden is having a bad day he can ticket you for this.
Thanks to all who responded.I am a Liecened hunter.I do have the right to keep what I harvest? Did I say BOUGHT?,I repent, jast did not want to admit to digging through some ones garbage! Now I'm covered! I will proceed to taking my cissors & start cutting.Should I make up a borax solution to wash them in? Or bleach water?
and they are clean just let them dry. IF they have mud or blood on them just wash them in dish soap and blow dry them.
