Purchasing federally protected birds is illegal. You cannot buy one.

Protected?

Are you sure they are protected in all states? Here in California there is a season listed for them.

Note the word "federal'

Doesn't matter what state or province you are in - they are *federally* protected. Just like ducks, geese, woodcocks, snipe etc... I didnt say it was illegal to go out and shoot one in a place where there is an open season, then ahve it mounted by a federally licensed taxidermist, I said it's illegal to buy or sell them. If you could find a captive bred crow or raven you'd be in the clear - LOL! But ya - they are federally protected. You can have one given to you - but no transaction can be made - it has to be a pure gift...

Just like there is a season on waterfowl. However they are protected By the migratory bird ace. Search CRC 50 Or the Lacey act. And you will see that it is illegal to Buy, sell, trade, Barter, Transport, cause to be transported, shipped across state lines except under the provisions provided in CRV 50 any such transportation must be in within the law of the state lines in which the specimen will travel. But at NO time can they be sold, bought, traded or bartered.
