turkey mounting

when mounting a turkey do you cut into the wings to get the meat out or do you try to pull the cape of like a sock ? i have tried both but cutting looks like it is going to be tough getting it sewn back up and pulling it off has left me tears .what is the best way to do this thaks ?

Hi ryan, You can cut down the inside of the wings to get to the meat to remove. Sewing it up is not hard.You can either fill in the meat area with caulk, or use nothing depending on the pose. Turkey skin is fairly tough and easy to sew. Good luck.

this way seemed better but just did not know how the end product would be this is far as i got I'm waiting on a feather flesher thanks again . ryan


"Pulling"

is the problem. The quills are really attached to the bone, pulling them will cause you tears. Look where the quills are attached and run you scissors down each side of the quill, cutting them from the bone. You will be able to turn your wing easy. When you get to the joint, be careful not to cut the tendons, so the bones stay attached. If they come apart, no biggy, you can rejoin them when you run your wire. Hope this helps to dry the tears! ):
