Buckeye turkey forms

Hey there,

I've checked the archives and didn't find what I was looking for.

I'm interested in using a different turkey form and have heard some good things about the Cary Cochran system from Buckeye.

But I've got a couple of questions.
1. The catalog offers a couple of options for forms. One with wing wire and leg rods, the other with leg rods and a "wing attachment system". Anyone know what that attachment system is? Is it their flexible wing inserts?

2. Does the system still have you mount the legs first and then the rest of the bird? I came across a couple of contradicting reports on that in the archives.

And, yes, I will ask the folks at Buckeye about the differences but I like to hear from those who use the products in their own shops. You seem to get a more realistic description that way.

Thanks all

wing wires

Tony I used Buckeye turkey forms for years but haven't bought any since McKenzie took over, don't know if they changed anything. The "wing attachment system" was just your wing wire that you mount like you normally would, then there is a set screw in the shoulder socket of the form. Put the wire in and tighten with an hex key. As for the legs---the wire they give you is 1/4" all thread, and there's a nut in the form at the birds knee, screw it in tight and mount as you usually would. In all they are nice forms, I liked the wing & leg systems.

That is them they make easy work of mounting a turkey. The lower legs are removed, and a hole drilled through the bone out the center of the foot. The 10-24 treaded rod is run through the leg. The flexible wing forms are installed in the skin and set into a socked and held with an Allen screw. After mounting, the wings can be adjusted to near perfection by accessing the screw via a small hole in the skin. They can be perfected by bending of the wire in the wing form. You will like the system. However, I personally do not feel they are suitable for competition mounts. Great for commercial. I will miss using them.

buckeye turkey forms

i too have also used the buckeye turkey forms like not having to "fight" the wing wire. but been using the cally morries forms again & been work on the wing thing, i pre drill wing socket with 1/2 inch wood bit then fill with bondo then drill that out with a 1/4 inch bit . then when you wire wing you cut wire off about 4 inch to go all the way thought the pre drill hole, then run a drywall screw in to the hole from the front(breast)does the same as the set screw in the buckeye form.i still use the 1/4 treaded rod for the legs, i pre drill the thigh out also with a 5/8 wood bit fill with bondo then redrill it with the 1/4 bit .makes a steardy mount with all the bondo in the drumstick, just have to not but a lot of bend into the legs but the forms with the build in drumstick dont need much bend in the rod to get them in a walking look.

Just for clarification, I'll need to buy the flexible wings as well as the form correct? Sounds like you're describing use of the flexible wing in addition to the form. In other words, the wing attachment system is the nut/hole not the flexible wing itself. That's a separate item.

Thanks again all for the help.
