Prarie chicken need help

I need a little help. I started work on a Prarie chicken today and a number of the back feathers fell out while I was skinning it. Never happened before like this any ideas would be greatly appreceiated.

Nature of the Bird

I have collected greater prairie chichens on a November hunt in Kansas. The feathers came out of the freshly killed birds very easily. I would only recommend very delicate handling and replacement. I have two in the freezer that I will be skinning soon.

Samw with Sharp tails

Not sure if it is the same issue, but I have the same problem with Sharptail Grouse. I think they are sensitve to rough handling, and possibly to slippage if not handled perfectly
