Submitted by Chris McCory on 04/05/2004 at 17:13. ( ) 64.12.116.205

I mounted a turkey fan that was shot in a wet muddy field. I was told that you can't wash the fan I tried to use a damp wash cloth on one tail feather and stoped. Because, it started looking bad (wet). Can you wash tail feathers. If you blow dry them soon as you wash them. Like you would with the rest of the body. PLease help. So, I know what to do next time. any info would be greatly app. Thank YOU. Chris

if you have to. I wash then tumble.Any splits between the feathers can easily be brushed back in place.

I wash all of mine.. Infact.. after you blow dry the majority of the water, or solvent (waterexpellant) out of the feathers .. if you go out side and do a dance with the tail fan flapping it vigously.. and looking like an idiot as I always do, I have found that any splits will naturally zip back up..

But yes, feel free to wash... Sometimes people have difficulty getting the feathers to zip back up.. if you do... wash it again, and start over... it's not hard.. but it took a few tries for me to get it right so that blow drying was more of a help than a hinderance and like I said.. a good shake and ruffle always seemed to do it good...

I do all the time, then blow dry. What Jon said about shaking the turkey fan isn't exactly correct. First take off your clothes tie a coyote rug around your crotch then hit the peace pipe then your in business. If the cops come just tell them the voices in your head told you to do it. Works for me.

After that go spear as many walleyes as you want!

thank you!
