question on duck feet -anybody

i have a duck that is already mounted and has been dried for several weeks and painted. my question is this, the customer wants the webbed feet flat and sticking straight out, is it possible for me to still rehydrate the feet and move them back into this position? if so do i fill the syringe with soapy water to rehyrate the feet? thanks

did you inject them first?

if you didnt inject them with any of the two part fluids now available, you may get some success with the soapy water. be prepared for the fact that they will not rehydrate to the point they were at when they were fresh, but maybe you can get them flexible enough to work with.

you should stip all the paint off first and wrap the feet in wet paper towels then cover with plastic. let this sit overnight. this will help to soften the surface enough to get some penetration with your syringe. BE CAREFUL! dont inject yourself when trying to force the needle in.

good luck

The bird had been dried for a good month..
and I wrapped the feet in a warm wet papertowel and let that sit overnight...
then the next day, I injected with a mixture of hot water and fabric softner... I did this that morning. and then again that eveing..
The next day.. they were almost good as new...Not perfect. but they were easy to work with.

Good LUck

im not sure about the glycerin. to be honest, ive never used it before. i inject all of my birds with masters blend. and if the customer didnt like my feet...its too late.

jon had some good advice too. it was pretty much what i told you to do, but adding fabric softner too. i havent tried that either, but it sounds like it could work.
